Photo posting: Jerusalem, old city, and Church of the Holy Sepulchre

We started walking, from the David Citadel Hotel, toward the Jaffa Gate, and stopped at a typical "garden tomb" ruin. It was especially interesting to see the design of the crypt, with a round "rolling stone" door to seal it shut. This sort of heavy cut stone disc was the kind of seal that only a rich family could afford, and is (likely to be) the same kind as described in the gospels as sealing the tomb of Jesus.
We then went on, up the hill, to the Jaffa Gate itself, and into the old city.
The Church of the Holy Sepulchre houses the traditionally recognized sites of the crucifixion and burial of Jesus. It's a huge structure, built by European crusaders, and full of altars at the spots where the key events were considered to have taken place.
